The "E" Family

What a great family -- great location - - great shoot! I had a lot of fun and I think that they did as well.

Sisters

These two beauties were so much fun to work with - I loved how excited they were to have their photos taken. The day started out with rain but mother nature pulled it together for us so we didn't have to re-schedule our session.

Photography to the amateur is recreation,
to the professional it is work,
and hard work too,
no matter how pleasurable it may be.

Week 4 - Project 365

PROJECT 365 - A PHOTO A DAY FOR A FULL YEAR

DAY 22 - The day started out with rain but ended with beautiful blue skies. I found my girls along with the girls from across the street sun bathing in our driveway.

Day 23 - I took this photo from my car window because ... I got out of the car - 100's of grasshoppers went flying and so did I - right back to the car. Now you all know - I'm afraid of grasshoppers.

Day 24 - I found my photo behind my neighbors 6 foot fence so I grabbed the closest thing to stand on - a child's plastic chair. I snapped my one and only photo and then the chair snapped as well.

Day 25 - Blowing Bubbles ...

Day 26 - I won't keep you guessing with this mystery picture ... it's my foot soaking in a foot bath. I've had a sore toe for a week now and was on the mend ... until my daughter ran over my foot with a shopping cart today.

Day 27 - A room with view - Olivia's kindergarten classroom.

Day 28 - Nope ...my car isn't the lucky one getting washed ... maybe tomorrow

Baby C

What a doll! Happiness was the feeling I had after my session with Baby C - it must have been her beautiful smile and sunny personality that touched my heart.

The "R" Family

I had the pleasure of photographing another "new" family this past weekend - their beautiful baby arrived into the world about 8 months ago. My favorite photograph from their session was a bottle break for baby ... you can truly feel their love for each other.

Eyelashes

Wrapping up my favorite summer photographs ... my youngest looked adorable wearing her Nana's childhood Easter Bonnet and the lingering mist on her eyelashes from the mist machines at the National Zoo was a photo op that I couldn't pass up.

Butterfly

More favorite summer photographs ... my little butterfly is headed to Kindergarten on August 30th - it's hard to believe! Livi loves make-up so she was thrilled to have her face painted - she picked out the design herself. She also loves swimming in Bucks Pond - which normally is cool and refreshing but on this day it was freezing and she wouldn't get out of the water.

Week 3 - Project 365

PROJECT 365 - A PHOTO A DAY FOR A FULL YEAR

Day 15 - The party is over ... Annabelle (my first born) had a fantastic 8th birthday. And the cake was delicious!

Day 16 - A week or so ago a fellow Facebooker had a similar photography of mushrooms - which I really liked. So, I was delighted to find these mushrooms in my yard today and I just had to photograph them before my husband mowed the lawn.

Day 17 - What would a hot August night be without a trip to the Montgomery County Fair (sadly we couldn't get any of our girls to take a spin on the Ferris wheel).

Day 18 - It's a rainy day here in Maryland! I caught my little one longingly looking out the front door - I quickly grabbed the camera before the moment was lost.

Day 19 - Apples are a family favorite ... I like the Granny Smith apples and everyone else enjoys the Galas.

Day 20 - Our Hydrangea bush started out a nice purple/blue but now all the blooms are green!

Day 21 - The van is packed and ready to go --- I've got several on location shoots in the next few days ... I'm so excited that I'm finally starting to get some jobs!

Water Baby

Since the start of school is right around the corner (August 30th) - I thought that I would show off some of my favorite summer photos. Whether snorkeling in Bucks Pond at Cape Cod or riding sole at Candlewood Lake in Connecticut - it's quite clear that my oldest daughter is naturally drawn to the water.

Montgomery County Agricultural Fair

We paid a visit to the 62nd Montgomery County Agricultural Fair! I personally love the agricultural section (the hatching chick above was incredible to watch) but my crew is drawn to the lights and sounds of the carnival rides and games.

Baby O

At 7 months old - Baby O - couldn't quite sit up and was just starting to crawl but my gut feeling tells me that this little guy is going to keep his mommy & daddy very busy when he really starts moving around!

The "B" Family

Seeing a family interact with each other can be amazing but watching a "new" family together - well - that's extra special!

Zoo Boots

While at the National Zoo today celebrating my oldest daughter's 8th Birthday .... this woman walk by in these fantastic boots. It's a look that I could never pull off but she caught my attention and I just had to share ....

Week 2 - Project 365

PROJECT 365 - A PHOTO A DAY FOR A FULL YEAR

Day 8 - Brookside Nature Center is one of our all time favorite places to visit (and it's free)! I fell instantly in love with these tiny tan/brown flowers - I have no idea what they are but they are incredible.

Day 9 - Our plans to go to the park changed when we realized that we had a very sick dog to take care of. She's fighting a terrible infection - I'm washing everything including her collar - I've got to keep things clean for her. Pray for our dear Abby.

Day 10 - What better way to cool off on a very hot day than homemade cherry slushies - Yummy!

Day 11 - We had our annual trip to the allergist to test Annabelle's peanut and dairy allergies. We won't know more until after she's had the blood test.

Day 12 - We had a huge thunderstorm this morning and I was sure that I heard a tree fall out back. I was out checking for damage when I saw my photograph. I was going for a full silhouette but I love that you can still see some green so I left it as is.

Day 13 - Name that mystery fruit? I won't keep you guessing ... it's a Pluot- 1/2 plum and 1/2 apricot. While shopping in Costco today we sampled same and just had to buy a pack.

Day 14 - We have a special 8th birthday in our house tomorrow ... the cake is finished baking but I still have to decorate it before going to bed.

Little Toad

You just never know what you will find out your back door - my girls found this little guy today on our deck. He was super tiny (only about 2 inches in length) but boy could he hop! I snapped a couple of photos before we let him go on his way.

Dear Abby

My first baby and dear friend - Abby. I took these photo's last week to help celebrate her life and being a part of our family for the past 11 years. My mom had mentioned that I hadn't taken Abby's portrait yet and need to do so - she was right! This morning we had to take our gal to the vet - she's quite sick. We're hoping for the best and praying that she recovers soon.

Your family loves you Abby - get well soon!

Out of Focus

In the top photo the subject matter is out of focus. The camera focused on the mirror and not the intended subject. The easiest way to correct the problem is to turn the camera from auto focus to manual ( as seen in the bottom photo). If your camera doesn't have this option then focus on something else (about the same distances as your subject matter) and keep the shutter pressed half way down to lock focus -reposition your camera and click. This same type of focusing problem happens when shooting through a chain link fence (like at the zoo) - with this simple little trick you can capture all those great photos.

Week 1 - Project 365

PROJECT 365 - A PHOTO A DAY FOR A FULL YEAR

On August 1, 2010 I started Project 365 ... it's a photo a day for a full year (if you are interested in seeing the photo's daily check out Carey Sims Photography on Facebook).

Day 1 - After more than a week away from home ... nothing is better than your own coffee and bed.

Day 2 - The kids had a play date this morning and out came the play-doh ... which gave me the idea of today's picture.

Day 3 -I took the kids to the movies this morning and found my photograph in the theatre parking lot (I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful sky today).

Day 4 - Can you guess which one of my children got into the markers this morning?

Day 5- I had my Vehicle Emissions Inspection today and thought it would be a great photo op. However, I was screamed at not to take pictures and was watched when leaving the station - very creepy! I was thrilled when I found this fantastic old building across the street from the inspection station.

Day 6- The cool waters of Mill Creek Towne Pool - while I was snapping a few pictures of my little mermaid - Olivia - no one was watching my 2.5 year old so today's photo session was very brief.

Day 7 - We took the kids down to DC for a picnic lunch and a little sight seeing. Despite the crowds and heat ... it was a great day. Honest Abe is my favorite memorial in our Nation's Capital.

45th Wedding Anniversary

Family is a glorious thing ... my mother & father-in-law (Judy & Skip) are celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary this month. In honor of them - we did some family sunset pictures at the beach (the light was changing fast but I think we captured some fantastic memories).

Cape Cod

Cape Cod is one of those amazing places that you can visit time and time again ... beauty is everywhere you look!

Bucks Pond

Bucks Pond in Harwich - Cape Cod - MA is a place close to my heart. Four generations of Sims have enjoyed this little piece of heaven. With a little luck from above future generations will also enjoy these waters.
